What Really Happens During a Bowen Therapy Session?

One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "What actually happens during a Bowen Therapy session?"

If you've never experienced Bowen Therapy before, it's completely normal to feel a little unsure. Many people arrive for their first appointment wondering if it will be like a massage, whether it will hurt, or if they'll need to remove their clothing.

The good news is that Bowen Therapy is very gentle, and most people are pleasantly surprised by how relaxing their session feels.

When you arrive at my clinic in Elleker, we'll spend a little time chatting about your health, what has brought you in, and what you're hoping to achieve. This helps me tailor your treatment to your individual needs because no two people are the same.

Bowen Therapy uses gentle, precise movements over muscles, tendons and fascia. Unlike massage, the movements are soft and there is no "no pain, no gain" philosophy. Between groups of moves, I pause for a short time to allow your body the opportunity to respond before continuing with the treatment.

Although you may come in with a sore shoulder, aching back or painful knee, Bowen Therapy works with the body as a whole. Everything in the body is connected, so addressing more than just the area of discomfort often helps achieve the best results.

One of my favourite comments from new clients is:

"I wasn't sure what to expect, but I can't believe how gentle it was."

That's something I hear time and time again.

After your session, some people feel deeply relaxed, others notice they move more freely, while some experience gradual changes over the following few days. Every person responds differently, which is why each treatment is tailored to the individual.

If you're curious about Bowen Therapy and would like to know exactly what happens before, during and after your appointment—including what to wear, how long a session takes and what to expect afterwards—I've created a detailed guide that walks you through the entire process.

If you're unable to travel to my clinic, home visits may also be available by arrangement.

Whether you're from Albany, Denmark, Elleker or elsewhere in the Great Southern, I'd love to help you feel comfortable, informed and confident before your first visit.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'm always happy to help.
